What is a Flexitarian diet?
A flexitarian diet, or flexible-vegetarian diet, substitutes part of the meat, poultry and fish with vegetables, whole grains and plant-based proteins – a diet that gradually guides you to eat more veggies while still enjoying your favorite meats.
In the 2014 U.S. News Best Diets publication, a panel of nutritionists, experts in diabetes & heart disease and other diet experts assembled by U.S. News gave the flexitarian diet high marks for nutritional soundness, safety and heart health.
The flexitarian diet outperformed many of its 31 popular diet competitors, with particularly high scores in nutritional completeness, simplicity and long-term weight loss. The flexitarian diet is about progress, not perfection. It’s a realistic approach to healthier eating without extreme measures.
According to Down Jackson Blatner, the author of "The Flexitarian Diet", flexitarians have a decreased risk of diabetes, cancer and heart disease, and are more likely to live longer and weigh less than people who follow a conventional diet that includes a high intake of animal products.

What are the differences among a flexitarian diet, a vegetarian diet or a vegan diet?
